Woods-Toth “Up To Speed” In F4 Car

Earlier this year the Motomaster Ron Fellows Karting Championship (MRFKC) had the pleasure to nominate Patrick Woods-Toth to the Radford Racing School scholarship program, a joint venture with the Formula 4 United States Championship powered by Honda (F4 U.S.). The 19 year old driver from Montréal has been competing on both the Canadian and international karting stage with Trevor Wickens’ Prime Power Team. In 2022, Woods-Toth captured the MRFKC, Motomaster Canadian Karting Championship and Canadian Open titles in the ROK Senior category.

The Radford Racing School’s F4 U.S. program was designed to help scholarship winners transition from karts to cars, and was made uniquely with the participants in mind. Nominations came from some of the world’s best karting programs, and scholarship recipients traveled to Radford’s facility in Arizona on the weekend of December 2nd.

“Driving a race car, and an F4 car for the first time was an amazing experience,” said Woods-Toth. “I felt comfortable right away and the Radford Racing School was a great transition for me to get up to speed as fast as possible.”

Drivers got to cut their teeth in the same equipment that the F4 U.S. uses in competition - a Ligier JS F4-16 chassis, a Honda 2.0-liter engine and Hankook tires. Drivers participated in exercises like skid control, lead-follow sessions, braking, shifting and handling drills.

F4 U.S. Race Director, and Canadian racing icon Scott Goodyear, oversaw the program. Prior to the school Goodyear was quoted as saying, “I’ve known Ron (Fellows) for a long time and have watched the quality drivers that come out of the Motomaster Ron Fellows Karting Championship program — I’m certain Patrick will be no different.”

“Patrick got up to speed very quickly,” Goodyear says. “His natural car control was evident during day 1 on the skid pad and he continued to impress us with his fast and consist runs in the F4 car … I'm excited to watch Patrick as I predict great things for him in the future."

Over the past few years Woods-Toth has emerged as one of the stand-out talents in MRFKC, and his success at the Radford school will hopefully be a stepping stone to competing at the next level of motorsport.

“I would like to thank MRFKC, Scott Goodyear and Trevor Wickens, who made this all possible,” says Woods-Toth.

Trevor Wickens, who traveled to Arizona with Woods-Toth for the program, says “the Radford school was a great experience,”

“Their resources and coaches were second to none. It’s amazing that MRFKC was able to offer such a great prize and I’m looking forward to what the future hold for more MRFKC racers.”

MRFKC remains committed to developing Canada’s young racers, with the transition of karting to cars being one of the most important steps for a driver. Series co-founder Ron Fellows says, “we understand Patrick did a terrific job at the Radford school, and we’re excited to see how we can help him capitalize on his great experience with the program.”

Fellows also thanked those involved in helping MRFKC offer this experience by saying, “we thank Scott Goodyear, F4 U.S., the Radford school, and everyone involved with this great opportunity for talented young drivers.”
